Rockchip Buildroot

Small, fast-booting firmware images, the default for cameras and appliances.

Buildroot is the default rootfs in Rockchip SDKs for cameras (RV1106/RV1126), audio devices (RK3308) and industrial MPUs (RK3506). It produces small, reproducible images with fast boot, and upstream Buildroot also has defconfigs for popular Rockchip SBCs.

Key points

  • Use BR2_EXTERNAL to keep your board configs, overlays and packages out of the Buildroot tree.
  • Board post-build scripts are where you assemble idbloader, U-Boot and kernel into a flashable image.
  • Enable only the Rockchip packages you use (MPP, RGA, rknpu runtime) to keep images small.
